Natural Grade A Guatemalan jadeite Black Tortoise pendant on rope necklace. The pendant features a natural Jadeite that is naturally light blue and yellow marbled, and carved into a Black Tortoisr. The Black Tortoise or Xuanwu ( ”玄武”) is one of the Four Symbols of the Chinese constellations, representing North and Winter season. It is usually depicted as a tortoise intertwined with a snake. In Japan, the characters 玄武 are pronounced as Genbu. It is said to protect Kyoto on the north side, being one of the four guardian spirits that protect the city.

The carving is done by hand, with beautiful design and intricate details. The material is pastel blue or light blue o the top with rich yellow marbling on the side and fully yellow on the underside. The material has translucent clarity, fine, smooth texture and excellent luster. There are some natural stone lines within the material on the underside. The jadeite used is 100% natural and untreated. The pendant is tied on a light yellow colored rope necklace which is fully adjustable up to 24". The entire necklace weighs about 22 grams.
